Where the record gets created in logistics & warehousing

Accuracy and throughput are in direct conflict. Checking every carton by hand slows the dock; not checking sends the wrong pallet, and the cost lands as a return, a chargeback, or a lost account.

  • Inbound receiving against the advance shipping notice

    What physically happens
    A trailer is unloaded and pallets cross the receiving door.
    What is captured
    A dock-door portal reads the cartons on the pallet in one pass and compares them to the expected shipment.
    What Mobi does with it
    Mobi Inventory records the receipt and raises shortages and overages at the door rather than at the next count.
    Where the result lands
    The WMS posts the receipt and releases the stock for putaway.
  • Directed putaway and location accuracy

    What physically happens
    A pallet is moved from receiving to a storage location.
    What is captured
    The operator scans the pallet and the location, so the WMS location is confirmed by a physical act rather than assumed.
    What Mobi does with it
    Mobi Inventory holds the location confirmations inside the approved deployment.
    Where the result lands
    The WMS owns the slotting and directs the move.
  • Scan-verified picking and packing

    What physically happens
    An order is picked from multiple locations and consolidated.
    What is captured
    Ring scanners and handhelds verify each pick against the order line before it is added to the carton.
    What Mobi does with it
    Mobi Inventory records pick confirmations where the deployment includes them; the WMS keeps directing the pick path.

    The WMS owns the pick path and the order state.
  • Outbound dock-door verification

    What physically happens
    A finished pallet crosses the shipping door onto a trailer.
    What is captured
    The portal reads every tagged carton on the pallet and compares it to the load before the trailer is closed.
    What Mobi does with it
    Mobi Inventory raises the discrepancy while the pallet is still on the dock.
    Where the result lands
    The WMS confirms the shipment and the TMS releases the load.

What the equipment has to survive here

  • Forklifts cross portals at speed, so read time and antenna geometry are engineering decisions
  • Shrink wrap, liquids, and metal loads attenuate RF and change tag placement
  • Dock congestion limits where a portal can physically be built
  • Freezer, cooler, and ambient zones need different tags, labels, and devices
  • Many sites run continuously, so installation happens around the operation

The system behind those workflows

  1. Physical capture

    A pallet or carton crosses a dock door, or an operator scans at the pick face.

    A portal read has to complete while a forklift is still moving through it. That is a physical constraint on antenna placement, tag position on the carton, and load geometry, and it is measured before the portal is built.

  2. Mobi software

    What Mobi does with what was captured

    Mobi Inventory records receipts, confirmations, and discrepancies. Integrations carries them to the WMS. Print Studio produces the carton and pallet label formats the portals depend on.

    Current limits
    Mobi Inventory is available today and does not replace the WMS or direct the pick path. Generally available multi-facility stock balances are not part of it.
  3. System of record

    Where the result has to land

    Receipts, confirmations, and discrepancies are posted to the WMS as they happen, so the dock decision is made against the current state rather than a nightly file.
