Meet the Zebra FXR60: An All-in-One Fixed RFID Reader Built for Simpler Deployments

The Zebra FXR60 is Zebra's newest fixed UHF RFID reader, and it's built around a simple idea: RFID deployments should be easier to install, easier to integrate, and smarter at the edge. It packs advanced read performance, on-device computing, wired and wireless connectivity, and an optional integrated antenna into one compact reader for retail, transportation and logistics, and manufacturing operations.
One platform, three configurations
The FXR60 comes in four-port and eight-port versions, plus a model with a built-in antenna. The integrated antenna option supports both near-field reading (under 5 feet) and far-field reading (up to 40 feet), so you can standardize on one reader platform for workflows ranging from item-level inventory to high-volume asset tracking.
- 4-port: four external antenna ports for dock doors, portals, and defined read zones
- 8-port: eight external antenna ports for wider coverage areas and multi-lane or multi-door setups from a single reader
- Integrated antenna: built-in near-field and far-field antennas alongside four external ports, for point-of-work reads and broader zone coverage without mounting a separate antenna for every job
Read performance for demanding environments
The FXR60 builds on decades of Zebra RFID engineering. It reads more than 1,300 tags per second and offers -92 dBm receiver sensitivity, which helps it pick up weak or poorly oriented tags in dense, RF-noisy spaces like busy receiving docks, packed backrooms, and production lines.
Edge computing: filter data at the reader
A quad-core processor and expanded memory let the FXR60 aggregate, analyze, and modify RFID data on the reader itself before sending it to your enterprise systems or cloud applications. In practice, that means duplicate reads, stray tags, and raw read noise can be filtered out before they reach your WMS or ERP. You get lower latency, lighter middleware, and events your applications can act on right away.
Connectivity for today's networks
- Gigabit Ethernet with PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at): one cable carries power and data
- Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) on applicable models, for locations where pulling new cable is impractical
- Bluetooth 5.3 with BLE support, plus an NFC tag for tap-to-pair setup
- USB-C host and client ports
- GPIO with 4 inputs, 4 outputs, and +24 VDC for motion sensors, photo eyes, and signaling devices
Installation and commissioning made easier
Zebra refined the FXR60 for the people who actually mount and commission readers. It has configurable stack lights and status indicators that show reader state at a glance, easy-to-secure connectors, a small footprint, and flexible mounting: flush brackets come standard, and an optional articulating VESA mount supports wall or pole installs. A micro-HDMI port provides visual feedback right at the reader, so technicians spend less time going back and forth to a laptop during setup.
Integration with IoT Connector, REST, and MQTT
The FXR60 supports Zebra IoT Connector, which lets you configure and control the reader and stream tag data and events over REST and MQTT APIs straight to your applications, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems. For hands-on setup and testing, Zebra's 123RFID Desktop and Mobile utilities handle reader discovery, configuration, and live inventory checks.
Where the FXR60 fits
- Retail: item-level inventory, backroom receiving, and stock-movement visibility
- Transportation and logistics: dock door shipping and receiving verification, conveyor and sortation reads
- Manufacturing: work-in-process tracking, kitting verification, and returnable container management
- Asset tracking: IT assets, tools, and equipment moving through doorways and zones
FXR60 or FXR90?
Both readers are built on Zebra's next-generation fixed reader platform. The FXR90 is the sealed, ruggedized option for harsh and outdoor installations. The FXR60 is designed for indoor use, with an operating range of -20°C to 55°C, and suits the large majority of indoor RFID projects in a smaller, easier-to-deploy package. If you're running FX9600 readers today, the FXR60 is a natural next step, and we can help you plan the migration.
Planning an FXR60 deployment
The reader is only one part of a reliable RFID system. Read rates in the real world depend on antenna selection and placement, tag choice, cabling, mounting, your PoE budget, and how the data lands in your business systems. Arrowhead has been a Zebra partner since 1999, and our team handles the full project: site survey, hardware selection, tags and labels, installation, and integration.
